Konan Specular Microscopes

Konan Microscope

The Konan Specular Microscope is able to make assessments which are unobtainable with traditional biomicroscopy or corneal topography.

The Konan Specular Microscope is the new way to assess cell loss or damage due to extended contact lens wear, surgery and the aging process. It is also an excellent tool for educating both doctors and patients, screening for corneal disease (fuchs-guttata, kerataconus, trauma, etc.) and observing the damaging effects of contact lens wearing and to access the proper treatment.

— FACTS —

  1. Incidence of Guttata is the same as Glaucoma inpatients 40 years and older
  2. 70% of all people over 60 have Guttata
  3. 20% of all Extended CL wearers have Ocular inflammation and Corneal Disorders

Clinical Indications

  1. Corneal Edema, Dystrophies and Degenerations
  2. Ocular Inflammation
  3. CL Endotheliopathy
  1. Disorder of the Lens
  2. Non-Routine Cataracts
  3. Pre-Operative Risk Assessment
  4. Post-Operative Managements

— Great News —

The US average CPT 91186 reimbursement for 2011 was $121.44
For 2012 it is $123.16, a 1.39% across the board increase.

“We screen all contact lens patients and are able to show changes in endothelium over time. It aides greatly in achieving compliance with lens replacement and is a great tool for education and assessment of numerous corneal pathologies.”

Gilan Cockrell, OD
Emporia, KS

“As an integral part of our patient care I am seeing that 30% of all medicare patients have some sort of corneal compromise. Not only has it taken my contact lens practice to a whole new level, we are improving the potential of long term care for our patients. We now have the Konan in all three offices.”

RAPD–X
Pupil Diagnostics

With RAPDx®, Konan has now substantially enhanced their view of neuro-pupillary dysfunctions.

rapid-x

Pupil defect testing began in the 19th Century, but until now, was subjective, difficult to perform well and inconclusive. As a required part of a standard eye examination, the notation “PERRLA - MG” commonly appears (if the testing was even performed) on the majority of patient records. Even with the best of intentions, this is perhaps unwittingly inaccurate.

RAPDx Signature™

RAPDx records a high-definition, biometric waveform of the pupil responses, the “RAPDx Signature™”, which characterizes key features of pupil defect responses beyond those seen by human observers of the old Swinging Flashlight Test.

RAPDx Results

RAPDx presents clear detail of the differential pupil responses which can be displayed as Amplitudes or Latencies. An analog of the Swinging Flashlight test can be performed as a fast screening test. Normative data is under development for characterizing specific conditions.

Features

  1. Touchscreen operator interface (tablet size).
  2. Operator display rotates 180 degrees for flexibility in pre-testing settings
  3. Ribbon control for simple patient alignment
  4. Cyclopian view of separate OD-OS stimuli scenes
